GOT TO BE REEL

GOT TO BE REEL

LGBTQ/SGL Lives Through a Black Lens

GOT TO BE REEL showcases emerging Black LGBTQ/SGL filmmakers and supports their stories being shared with their communities, as well as the world at large.  This work facilitates informed community dialogues about often undiscussed or misunderstood topics, and lends to a greater understanding of the lives, challenges, and the value of people of varying identities.

GOT TO BE REEL (G2BR) was created in 2022 by Odu Adamu.  As he toured the festival circuit with his first project, Odu realized many of the films by Black filmmakers being featured would probably only be viewed at these festivals. He knew there needed to be more events for Black LGBTQ/SGL people to access these films and dialogue with the filmmakers about their featured works. G2BR partners with local community-based organizations, arts centers, Black pride groups, and educational institutions to host films programs. GB2R also collaborates with other film programs to create more opportunities to showcase Black LGBTQ/SGL filmmakers.

GOT TO BE REEL is part of the New York Foundation of the Arts fiscal sponsorship program and your investment in this program is tax deductible.  Go to NYFA to support this necessary work!
